Atlantic Sinfonia Announces 2012-2013 Tour – Sept. 2012

Atlantic Sinfonia Atlantique 2012-13 tour will be based on the Music of Catherine the Great, one of the major figures of the Enlightenment, who began her reign in Russia 250 years ago this year. While fostering the arts and education in Russia she drew upon the ideas of writers, musicians, and artists of the 1700’s in the ‘the west’ including many of the major composers of the day including Hasse, Galuppi, Paisiello, Mozart, Hayden and Cimarosa. The program will include works of the enlightenment that may have been heard in Catherine’s court. Atlantic Sinfonia Atlantique, a unique hybrid orchestra with an audience friendly approach to classical chamber music, brings together some of the best professional musicians from the Maritime region. The group performs in 18th century style, standing and performing without conductor. The resulting product is high quality entertainment – performed with freshness and vibrancy.
